I seem to lack a bit of focus at times, when it comes to my blogging. Like most that tend to wallow at the hobby level, hoping to make it a more serious affair, there are many days where I spend more time reading about blogging than I do actually writing and link building. I hope that that will change today. Today is my first day working from home, not as a full time blogger but for my ‘real’ job.
I read Tim Ferris’ 4 hour work week last year and found a few items in it that I thought were a great idea. One was to try and spend more time working from home so that you have the freedom to put in a little more effort into your own business. This is what I plan on doing beginning with this post. The real beauty is that without all the typical distractions that come with office life I should be able to be more productive in my real job as well as getting more done on some of my own projects.
I have a nice stable of sites going right now, a great platform to really get things moving. I just need to convince myself to write, write, write and link like crazy instead of wandering around all of the Be a Better Blogger type sites. This site is one that should see a lot more activity. I’ll get back into the grove I had a couple years ago where I mix up writing about my own journey with both blogging tips and some posts on topics that interest me. Living underground and modern architecture (from a layman’s perspective) both relating to ‘how do live in better harmony with the natural world’.
This should be fun! Do I need to do a John Chow and report my earnings? Do I write more serious posts on 1 focused topic or do I meander from personal thoughts to pure link building efforts?? Most likely it will be a bit of everything – just me thinking out loud, sharing info, writing a bit on topics I like etc…
From the Work from Home front. Today is Day 1 but funny enough, I can’t get any work done (explains this post). I’m waiting for a telecom part to arrive before I can hook up my work system. And it’s a Friday…I guess I’ll really get up and running Monday morning. Is this a case of greener grass on the other side or will I really embrace the challenge of both keeping my employer happy while boosting my personal productivity? or will I just go stir crazy in a couple of months??
One tidbit on the hockey site, we got picked up by Google News. It ramped up our traffic by about 1000 visits a day, pretty pleased with that one.
