Am I late to the party? I honestly had only heard of this site/service in passing and had no idea what it really was – until yesterday.
I had a blog post from Tim Ferriss drop into my Reader, checked it our and noticed something at the bottom. Tim included his Facebook link and right below it a Posterous link. Now I know Tim is about as near to the forefront of all things web that you’re likely to find so when I saw this link I was pretty intrigued.
First impressions are so crucial and on the Web they happen in an instant. At least when you meet somebody they get a few chances. The first seconds may make an indelible impression but when they begin to speak those impressions can alter when he/she speaks. Even if they take a look at you, snub their nose, turn and walk away – you may still think ‘nice ass’ and reconsider your position. That could take 30 seconds or more. Now on the web you land on a page, take a fast look and do one of two things.
a) get some aversion, either design/headline/colors/image and quickly move on, never to return.
b) see something that catches your attention and dive in giving it your attention.
So I see Tim’s link, visit his Posterous page, decide that it looks interesting, read his profile, go to the Home page, check out Laughing Squid’s posts and I’m practically hooked. It’s obvious right off the bat what they are. An easy way to get some content up where it may be a touch to much for Twitter but not quite something that you want on your blog. A great middle ground.
So I’ll be trying it out over the next few weeks. If you’ve used it and have an opinion, please share.
